Lifeguard 

Lifeguard positions are seasonal and year-round. Guards report directly to the Head Guard and/or the Assistant Manager & General Manager.  

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and execute emergency lifesaving procedures to swimmers in distress and other emergencies at the pool
  • Enforce pool rules of the pool
  • Complete Incident Reports regarding incidents at the pool
  • Attend all mandatory In-Service Trainings and Safety/Staff Meetings
  • Help maintain cleanliness of LRD’s pool deck & locker rooms.
  • Reviews all pool equipment and furniture for functionality.
  • Provides excellent customer service to pool patrons

Qualifications:

  • Current Lifeguard CPR/AED Certification in a pool setting
  • Professional, team-player, responsible, self-motivated and reliable
  • Excellent time management & communication skills
  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • Available to potentially work early mornings, nights, weekends & holidays.
  • LRD accepts applicants who are members & non-members. 

Pay Rate:

  • $17-$25/hour depending on experience
  • Time & one half pay on holidays

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Due of the fluctuating nature of the community center environment and operations, it may be necessary that each employee perform a multitude of different functions. It may be necessary to work in other areas of the LRD and help others when the occasion arises.  Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or directed.

Summer Swim Instructors 

Swim Instructor positions are year-round or seasonal. Swim Instructors report directly to the Assistant Manager & General Manager.

Instructing Responsibilities: 

  • Self- determined schedule within boundaries of other aquatic programming. 
  • Provide high quality swim instruction as distributed by Assistant Manager or General Manager
  • Provide feedback to swimmers and parents as needed
  • Ensure client satisfaction and safety

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Attend all mandatory In-Service Trainings and Safety/Staff Meetings
  • Manage schedule & communicate appropriately with upper management

Qualifications :

  • Current CPR/AED Certification
  • Professional, team-player, responsible, self-motivated and reliable
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and/or weekdays
  • Must be at least 15 years old

Camp Ladera-Head Counselor 

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Manager & General Manager, Head Camp Counselors are responsible for planning, staffing & implementing a fun, safe and positive camp experience for campers. Head counselor responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

Supervision:

  • Head counselors are responsible for supervising and overseeing the staff & campers at all times.
  • Ensure safety of staff and campers and well-being during all camp activities, including meals & recreational activities.

Leadership:

  • Lead by example and serve as a role model for staff and campers, demonstrating qualities such as responsibility, respect, integrity and teamwork.
  • Encourage campers & staff to participate actively, engage in positive behavior and resolve conflicts peacefully.
  • Assist instructors, lifeguards, and other LRD staff by actively participating in all aspects of the camper’s day.
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on other duties as assigned.

Camper Care & Behavioral Management:

  • Attend to the physical, emotional, and social needs of campers, providing support, guidance, and encouragement as needed.
  • Attend any signs of distress, or behavioral issues among campers and address them promptly and appropriately.
  • Be prepared to intervene and de-escalate conflicts or challenging situations among campers, utilizing conflict resolution skills, active listening, and empathy.
  • Seek guidance from management if needed.
  • Implement appropriate behavior management strategies to maintain discipline, promote positive behavior, and address any rule infractions or disruptive behavior among campers.
  • Use positive reinforcement, redirection, and conflict resolution techniques to manage behavior effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to camper attendance, incidents, medications, and any significant events that occur during the camp session.
  • Ensure that all required forms, waivers, and permissions (if necessary) are completed and filed appropriately.

Activity & Supply Planning:

  • Plan and organize camp activities, games, crafts, and programs that are age-appropriate, engaging, and inclusive.  
  • Determine supplies needed and prep activities ahead of time based on number of camp participants and staff.
  • Work with LRD Managers to get necessary supplies for each week
  • Ensure that activities are conducted safely and adhere to camp policies and guidelines.
  • Guide campers & staff in all aspects of activities.
  • Plan each week’s theme and activities prior to the start of camp.
  • Identify T-Shirt needs by April 1st

Administrative:

  • Adhere to established schedules and work assignments
  • Excellent time management
  • Attend meetings as scheduled
  • Open, clear, and effective communication with staff, kids, parents & management
  • Respond to emails and phone calls regarding job in a timely manner
  • Clock in and out upon arrival and departure each day
  • Order food for Friday lunches within budget.

 

Safety:

  • Enforce the policies/rules to ensure the safety of the campers
  • Conduct equipment, supply and facility inspections to ensure proper use and safety
  • Observe behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  • Notify Management of any problems that arise in a timely manner.
  • Complete and maintain records including attendance records, forms, accident, and injury reports, etc.
  • Be knowledgeable about camp safety protocols, emergency procedures, and first aid techniques. Maintain a vigilant eye on campers to prevent accidents and respond promptly and effectively in case of emergencies, including medical incidents, injuries, or severe weather.

Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of age.  
  • Minimum 3 years Camp Ladera Counselor experience.
  • Ability to teach and lead various recreational activities.
  • Energetic and creative person with high level of self-initiative.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Good organizational and communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • A good attitude and desire to have an educational and fun summer.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Coaching, ability and/or experience in swimming and child care preferred.
  • For those who are 18 yr & older, verification of finger prints cleared with California DOJ, FBI and have a Child Abuse Index cleared.

Staff Management:

  • Hiring:
    • Help identify and recommend paid and junior counselors (volunteers)
  • Scheduling:
    • Staff based on need
    • Use when to work to schedule staff
    • Ensure all counselors, paid and volunteers, update schedules weekly using the ‘available’ & ‘unavailable’ indicators.
    • For weeks with younger campers, maintain 4 campers to 1 counselor ratio
    • For weeks with older campers, maintain 6 campers to 1 counselor ratio
    • Ensure all counselors clock in and out.
    • Work with managers to identify rosters for each week.
    • Have daily meetings with staff to ensure the week/day’s plans are understood and met
  • Communication:
    • Maintain open and effective communication with campers, fellow counselors, camp administrators, and parents/guardians.
    • Provide regular updates on camp activities, camper progress, and any concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp staff to create a supportive and cohesive team environment.
    • Coordinate schedules, share responsibilities, and work together to ensure the smooth operation of the camp program.

Payrate:

  •  $20-$25/hr depending on experience

 

Camp Ladera Counselors

  • Flexibility and willingness to take on other duties as assigned

  • Guide campers in all aspects of activities
  • Engage with campers in activities including crafts, games, sports, science, swimming, creative play, etc.
  • Supervise and lead assigned program areas and activities as designated by the Head Camp Counselors

Administrative:

  •  Adhere to established schedules and work assignments

  • Attend meetings as scheduled
  • Open, clear, and effective communication with staff, kids, parents & management
  • Respond to emails and phone calls regarding job in a timely manner

Junior Camp Counselor-Volunteer Position 

The Junior Counselor role is a volunteer position that provides hands on experience and training to gain knowledge on how to become an effective Camp Counselor.

Junior Counselors will be able to record their hours to help them with volunteer hours towards school or personal development program requirements. The General Manager or Assistant Manager will need to sign the appropriate paperwork if needed. Should the Junior Counselor continue volunteering until the age of 15, they will be able to apply to interview for a  paid Camp Counselor position.  This is a seasonal position that begins in June and ends in July. Junior Counselors will report to the Head Camp Counselors and General Manager.

Dolphin Swim Coach 

Dolphin Swim Coach positions are seasonal: June—July (end of summer swim team). Coaches report directly to the Dolphin Head Coach.

Coaching Responsibilities:

  • Coach up to five Dolphins practices per week
  • Attend all Dolphin Swim Meets
    • Support swimmers and families as needed to ensure meet logistics run smoothly
  • Organize and develop practice regimens
    • Uphold positive group dynamics along with appropriate progressions
  • Provide feedback to swimmers and other coaches as needed
  • Ensure LRD member satisfaction
  • Display enthusiasm, provide encouragement and team spirit

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and provide supplies for craft day (will be reimbursed if needed)
  • Attend all mandatory In-Service Trainings and Safety/Staff Meetings
    • Will receive notification

Qualifications:

  • Current CPR/AED Certification
  • Professional, team-player, responsible, self-motivated and reliable
  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • Active participant on Dolphins swim team
  • Must be an LRD Member
Junior Dolphin Swim Coach-Volunteer Position 

Junior Dolphin Swim Coach is a volunteer position that provides hands on experience and training to gain knowledge on how to become an effective Swim Coach.
