Sarah Gutierrez
Sarah began competitive swimming at age 11 for West Coast Aquatics in San Jose. In high school, she was part of Archbishop Mitty's three-time Central Coast Selection (CCS) Championship teams, with the 2004 Championship team being inducted into Mitty's Athletic Hall of Fame. She was acknowledged for her academic and athletic excellence with a scholarship to the University of the Pacific, where she participated on the women’s swim team and earned a BFA in Graphic Design. During summers in high school and college, Sarah discovered the rewards of sharing her love of swimming by teaching and coaching young kids.
After working for a short time as a graphic designer, she returned to the pool deck in 2011 and was introduced to the private club industry as a swim coach and instructor at Ladera Oaks. In 2015 she moved onto the University Club of Palo Alto as an Aquatics Manager and was promoted to Aquatics Director while continuing to coach, teach and run the aquatic programming. In 2018 she earned her Masters in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco.
It is Sarah's belief that when swimmers accomplish something they did not think possible, it is 'equivalent to winning a gold medal'. She encourages swimmers to carry the confidence they gain in the pool into other parts of their lives. She also loves to create a welcoming community at the pool to enrich the membership experience. When she isn't on the pool deck you will find her playing tennis, practicing yoga, hanging with friends and traveling.
