Meet Our Swim Instructors

 Brandon Johnson

A person wearing glasses, smiling outdoors with a blurred background of trees.

Brandon grew up in Arizona and earned his first participation ribbon in the City Summer Swim League at age seven. Through high school he worked as a lifeguard and taught swim lessons between double practices. He continued his swim career at Lake Forest College, earning All-Conference distinctions. Brandon served as the Head Age Group Coach at Los Altos Mountain View Aquatics. In his short time, he guided developing swimmers who could barely make a legal stroke achieve their first A times. Coaching was not only a way for him to share his love for the sport, but also an opportunity to let emerging swimmers discover self-confidence, establish personal fitness goals, and find a place within a team environment.

Hi! I’m Sofia Toyos, and I’m excited to work with your swimmers!

I’m a senior at Sacred Heart Preparatory with a strong background in both competitive swimming and high-level water polo. I’ve been swimming competitively since age 6, training with my summer league team, PASA, and through four years of varsity swimming at SHP. I’ve also played varsity water polo all four years and have competed in club water polo since I was 8. My time as a lifeguard, private-lesson instructor, swim team coach, and longtime athlete has helped me understand technique, safety, and how to support younger swimmers. I love helping kids feel stronger, safer, and more confident in the water.

My coaching philosophy is to build great technique, build great confidence, and make the water a place kids love. Safety and comfort always come first, followed by strong fundamentals and eventually preparing swimmers for competition. I focus on positive coaching, steady progress, and making every lesson fun and rewarding. I can’t wait to bring my experience, energy, and love for the sport to LRD!
